Overview
The Baltimore City Archives, in conjunction with the Maryland State Archives, is the official repository for the records of the Baltimore City government. The mission of the Archives is to support the goals of the City of Baltimore and its citizens by identifying, acquiring, arranging, describing, preserving, and making accessible – for the use of City agencies, scholars, students, and the general public – the records of enduring value created or received by City agencies and elected officials.

Detailed Description of Collections
The Baltimore City Archives contains over Record Groups containing the government records including City Council records, Mayor’s Papers, Departmental records such as Recreation and Parks, Zoning, Public Works, Law, Housing, Planning, and more. War of 1812 and Civil War Records are also contained within the Record Groups.

Over 30 Manuscript Collections are also held by the BCA, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s record collection, Provident Hospital records, Safeco Maps, Family papers, Photographs, Police records.
